Youth Programs
Youth Programs
At Temple Sholom, we have three opportunities for those who have already celebrated Bet Mitzvah (8th - 12th grade). Of course, as a Jewish adult, you can participate in any of Temple Sholom's programs or events, but these are geared just for you. You can participate in any or all of the opportunities, although Confirmation does require a continuous participation.
1) Madrichut - Now you are an expert in our Religious and Hebrew schools - volunteer on Tuesdays and/or Sundays to help teach. The goal of this program, for those who continue through high school, is to train you to be able to teach Religious School yourself. (It's a great college job.)
2) SPICY/MILD - Our high school and middle school youth groups are affiliated with NFTY-GER - our region of Reform Judaism's youth movement. There are regional activities, as well as more local. These groups run our High HolyDay food drive and the Purim Carnival, among other events.
3) Confirmation/Education - Temple Sholom has been confirming students in our educational program since soon after our founding in 1913. Each year you have a core class with your grade, and then can choose from a variety of offerings to complete your curriculum, which may be trips, mini-courses or independent study. In the 10th grade year, there are special events with the Rabbi, a trip, and the class leads the Confirmation service at Shavuot in the spring.
