Youth Programs

J.U. and Confirmation

J.U. (Jewish University) and Confirmation are part of Temple Sholom's post-B'Nei Mitzvah education program. Learn more about them here.

SPICY & MILD:

SPICY (Sholom's Progressive Involved Congregational Youth) is the Temple's high school youth group (grades 9-12). The group hosts engaging social events, including an end-of-summer pool party; trips to Great Adventure, Harold's Deli and Rebounderz; snow tubing, shul-ins, teen-led social action events; and more! SPICY is a part of NFTY-GER, (North American Federation of Temple Youth - Garden Empire Region), a national organization made up of Reform Jewish teenagers. Our teens often look forward to attending these regional events five weekends a year.

MILD is the Temple's middle school youth group (grades 6-8). Its goal is to keep "tweens" engaged in fun, educational and age-appropriate activities leading up to and beyond their B'nei Mitzvah. MILD hosts monthly events designed and organized by SPICY & MILD youth leaders, including social action, worship and recreational events. As a member of Watchung Valley NFTY-678 Region, MILD and goes to one regional overnight a year and several regional day events.

NFTY-GER:

Temple Sholom is part of NFTY-GER - a movement that builds strong, welcoming, inspired communities through teen-powered engagement. Together, we pursue tikkun olam, personal growth, youth empowerment, and deep connections, all rooted in Reform Judaism. The Garden Empire Region of NFTY serves Jewish Teens in central and northern New Jersey and the West Hudson Valley of New York (Rockland and Orange counties). We work in partnership with Union for Reform Judaism affiliated congregations to provide meaningful Jewish experiences for middle and high school students.
